Preparing A Best Man Wedding Speech

Why worry about writing your own best man wedding speech when there are free speeches available online? There are a number of reasons.

For one, pre-made speeches aren’t exactly the ones that are tailored to your personality. Although these speeches talk excellently about weddings and elevant topics, they still don’t have that one element which make speeches connect you to the audience. This element is the spirit of the piece. It’s, in other words, generic, and that’s the last thing you really want to say when you’re in front of families and close friends. Second, a pre-prepared speech sounds too structured. Although they may seem perfect for the occasion, they don’t fit your audience well. You may not be able to get through your audience with these speeches, making it likely for your speech to become unforgettable, if not boring. For a final speech, your speech as the best man should be able to heighten the wedding party’s spirits in preparation for the celebrations that follow.

The best option for you, therefore, is to come up with one that you, yourself, wrote. But how can you do that?

Don’t think about the wedding first. Doing this will help you feel less anxious about the occasion, thus help you focus on preparing your speech. This is the best trick to starting a speech, even if you’re already running out of time.

List then the things that you will include in your speech. These can be anything from funny anecdotes that trace as far back as the groom’s childhood (if you were childhood friends) or amusing insights into the groom’s prospect of the future.

There are some ‘official’ things that should be in your speech such as dates (when did the couple started dating), significant things that the couple experienced together, funny insights about the groom’s character, and perhaps a short background description of the bride. You may also mention a funny anecdote or two which really happened to the groom. When it comes to ex-girlfriends, it is okay to include them in your speech as long as they do not go beyond good taste and so long as the groom gave you his consent. You may also talk about some secrets about how the groom is like as a person, a friend, a co-worker, or a brother. Maybe you could toss in a few side notes about how the groom would be like as a husband.

Once you’ve collected all the details you want to include in your speech, start writing it down. In your opening sentence, thank everyone who have spoken before you. This then should be followed with warm thanks to the guests for their participation in the ceremonies and the reception. After this, offer a toast to the parents of the couple and give them thanks on behalf of the couple. Proceed to the succeeding sections of your speech. As you deliver the rest of your speech, crack a joke or say something entertaining or funny to catch the attention of the guests. End your speech with a final toast and your best wishes for the bride and the groom.

Once you’ve edited your best man wedding speech, ask a friend to review and comment on it. If he says it’s great, you’re done. If not, it is up to you to go back to the drawing board and polish your work.
