Marriage Therapy: The Answer To A Blissful Relationship
People who are head over heels in love with each other decide to get married as a proof of their love. And problems are also part of marriages. With the ever increasing divorce rates all over the world today, more and more married couples are undergoing marriage therapy.
There are indeed a lot of possible reasons that can lead to broken marriages. Irreconcilable differences is one of the most frequent reasons why couples file for divorce.
Since married couples come from different families, that means that they were brought up differently. And differences in religion or race can even add up to some issues that can complicate the marriage even more.
Irreconcilable differences may also be based on small habits, which when done often can annoy your spouse. These annoying small habits can be something like not putting the toilet seat up, leaving piles of dirty clothes on the floor, or leaving appliances running when no one is using them. These irreconcilable differences can create incompatibility between the married couple.
Another common reason why couples file for divorce is when one of them gives into temptation. When the spouse discovers that his or her loved one has an affair, he or she will definitely feel betrayed. This will definitely destroy the other person’s trust. And because of this broken trust, you will start to doubt his or her love for you.
Communication problems is also another common reason why couples file for divorce. The realities in life can get so overpowering that sometimes, a person may get too preoccupied with his or her work and other problems. Sometimes one of you may come home really tired and cranky that you get mad at your spouse for no reason at all. Or sometimes, being too busy with work can make you forget of your spouse’s birthday or your wedding anniversary.
These are some of the usual reasons that married couples give when filing for a divorce. And one of the methods that couples do in order to save their marriage is to attend marriage therapy. In marriage therapy, the couples will be seeking the services of a professional marriage counsellor who will help them identify the problem areas of their marriage and how to address these.
More often than not, the marriage counsellor is able to give the couples a different and clearer understanding of what is happening in their marriage. The biggest hindrance in marriage therapy is the fact that not all couples are open to sharing their deepest emotions and thoughts with another person other than their spouse. If one of you or your spouse is not really open to attending marriage therapy, this will not be a successful method in saving your marriage.
Sometimes, when the couples make the decision to undergo marriage therapy, it is already too late to cause any benefit in their marriage. For instance, it is already too late to undergo marriage therapy if one of you is already dead-set into filing for a divorce.
