Have The Perfect Wedding Without Breaking The Bank

It is very easy to get carried away when planning your wedding. Your wedding is the one occasion when it is easy to go overboard. If you’re not careful you can plow through thousands of dollars, money that could be spent on the down payment on a house or to pay off your school loans. Anything a bride-to-be can imagine is available to be purchased somewhere, with the wedding industry worth billions of dollars every year. But you can have the wedding of your dreams without spending a fortune.

Think Small

You’ve got your notepad and pen, and you’ve started listing names. You write down your immediate family and friends, but you don’t stop there. Before you know it, you’re desperately trying to remember the name of that girl from the third grade. You don’t want to invite her, but you’ve already listed her next door neighbor and you don’t want to insult anyone.

The invitation list is the first place to trim when you are planning a wedding on a budget. Of course you will need to invite your immediate family and friends, but if you don’t invite other people that you know, they are not going to be offended. In most cases, they will simply wish you the best, and realize that you are watching your expenses. And they may be happy not to be invited. A wedding is expensive for guests as well, with new clothes, presents and babysitters to organize. And if one of your distant friends, relatives or acquaintances do feel insulted or snubbed, they will get over it. Either that, or you’re probably better off without them anyway.

Clip Coupons

An easy way to save is to shop around, and buy discounted items. There are plenty of discounters that sell very nice wedding dresses and other formal attire at reduced prices. Every woman dreams of being able to walk into an expensive boutique to to be treated like royalty and draped in layers of white silks, satins, and laces. But unless you have the budget of royalty, this dream is going to have to stay just that.

If you are careful, you can still find a dress that makes you look and feel like a princess, but without having to pay such a hefty price. You may have to spend a little extra for tailoring, but the money you save in the end can pay for things that you really need. You can do the same thing when organizing your shoes, hair, makeup, flowers, and all of the other details that go into making your wedding day perfect. Let other people pay retail.

Think Green

By thinking green, you can also cut down on your expenses. Up-cycled items may be the perfect way to save you money. Although environmentally friendly products such as organic vegetables and recycled goods tend to be more expensive than their counterparts, thinking green for your wedding may just help you come in under budget. If you have friends or relatives that have more than one wedding under their belt, chances are they have an attic full of once-worn dresses. There’s a pretty good chance that they won’t even have any emotional attachment to the dress either. At least, not a good one. An old dress can be refashioned by a good tailor for a minimal investment, and made to look like it was designed with you in mind.
