Don’t Forget The Groom

For most brides, the wedding is all about me, me, me. And why not? It’s in the genes. From the first time a girl hears the story of Cinderella, she’s already planning her own wedding to Prince Charming. So the poor groom often gets left out. If he wants to be involved in the planning, let him! After all, he’s the one who had to hock his Harley to buy you that diamond ring. If not, at least he gets to have some fun.

The Bucks Night

The groom is always second to the bride on their wedding day, and most guys realize this. That’s why they get their own big night – the ubiquitous bachelor party. Some brides see bachelor parties as a threat. Visions of strippers and booze can turn the night before your wedding into a nightmare. You may be surprised to know that not all bachelor parties turn into debaucherous nights of alcohol-fueled pranks. And the groom generally does make it to the altar on time. You simply need to trust the man you’re marrying, as well as his best man. It’s the best man who is planning the bachelor party, and also the best man who is responsible for making sure the groom makes it to the church on time.

That doesn’t mean that you can’t make suggestions about the big night. If your groom-to-be is likely to get carried away at his big night, suggest that he hold his bachelor’s party on the weekend before the wedding. That way he and his friends have plenty of time to recover.

Another way to keep the boys safe is to rent out a hotel room or suite. Although there are obvious risks involved with this setting, it also means that they have a place to crash for the night and no one will be driving drunk. When you do book a room, make sure to tell the hotel that it is for a bachelor party. They may have special arrangements in this case.

The Penguin Suit

Although it is easy to forget, the groom’s outfit is just as important as the bride’s. It is important to start early when decided on the perfect tuxedo for your perfect man. If you have scheduled a spring wedding, keep in mind that you may clash with prom season, the busiest time of the year for the tuxedo rental industry. In fact, a deposit on the tuxedo should be one of the first things on your list if you don’t want your groom standing at the altar in a powder blue leisure suit.

Two People, One Wedding

If you are finding that you and your groom both want to be the one planning your wedding, you will need to learn to compromise. A wedding is really just one big project, so it will never work to have two people working on separate plans. One person will ultimately have to be the project manager, taking responsibility for the overall planning. But that doesn’t mean that one person makes all of the decisions. A wedding is the first day of your life together as a couple, and it is important that you both have a say as to how that day will run.
